Dan Roberti Roils 5th District Race With Union Endorsement.
Democrat Dan Roberti is making an impression in the race for the Democratic nomination in the 5th Congressional District. He has picked up the endorsement of the very active 4,700 member Local 1298 of the Communications Workers of America, Daily Ructions has learned.
Roberti, a New York public relations flack who resides in tony Kent, Connecticut, is off to a fast start in the race that continues to take shape. He enjoyed a robust fundraising start, far outdistancing Democrat Elizabeth Esty and Republican Justin Bernier. Bernier claimed to have set a record for the period but that boast came to grief when Esty and Roberti released their numbers.
The CWA endorsement of Roberti has caused consternation on Speaker of the House Christopher Donovan’s office. Donovan has been considered a subsidiary of the unions, so this has come as an unhappy jolt as the second-term speaker edges closer to making the race in the 5th.
Team Donovan cannot say it wasn’t warned. CWA head Bill Henderson escorted Roberti around Monday night’s annual Jefferson-Jackson-Bailey Democratic fundraising who-ha.

Maybe we have the Democrat Linda McMahon on our hands. Watch how many CWA guys end up on Roberti’s payroll
Donovan thinks he’s got a lock on the unions. He comes across as a humble, congenial guy, but he’s got an arrogance that’s nearly offensive. CWA needs to watch out for threats and intimidation from Speaker Donovan’s office this year and throughout the next legislative session.
One thing for sure there will be fallout for the members of CWA at the State Capital. Team Donovan will see to that. Those red shirt rally calls of the past will be only a memory
Will the other unions follow the Lead of the once powerful CWA?
What will the fallout and penalty be for CWA from TEAM DONOVAN? There will be a price to pay………
I do expect that there is much more to all this that will unfold in the days ahead! There will be costs and benefits to many.
I believe my name says it all…
Dan Roberti’s father Vinnie is an unbelievable hustler who seems to have nine lives. He’s become a very successful lobbyist of the highest magnitude in DC. I’d bet the endorsement came through the father…By the way, he’s a snake.
Am I the only one who wonders who’s payroll Cheshire Kat is on? I’m guessing its the one candidate that has no endorsements to her name…
Did you see the poll Justin Bernier released tonight? I don’t know why his campaign would be proud that the poll he paid for showed him 3 points ahead of Greenberg and Wilson-Foley.
After Bernier and Greenberg have been on the campaign trail for well over a year between last year and this year to be within the margin of error with a candidate who has been in the race for a month is not exactly bragging rights! Between his pencil gymnastics on his fundraising and now this, it shows how little he knows about numbers! Talk about desperate spin!!!!
Beware of Justin Bernier! He’s a spoiler!
There seems to be something wrong with a high powered lobbyist making deals for union endorsements for their kid’s campaign. What kind os laws do we have anyway!
I agree with Say it ain’t so. Something stinks.
I don’t think Dan Roberti’s campaign has anything to do with his father…
Donovan, Esty, Bernier, and Greenberg are all white noise. This race will come down to Roberti and Clark. is there anyone else running?
I think Donovon and Esty could be forces to be reckoned with, although of course Roberti is too. But now Michael Williams is in the race and he has a fantastic resume and roots in the district, so he might cause real problems for Roberti.
Vinny is running the show and making the deals!
bob, you really under estimate Lisa if you think this race is coming down to Roberti and Clark. Clark will not be there next year at this time.
To Bob Wouldward –
You say that this race is down to Roberti and Clark because Donovan, Esty, Bernier, and Greenberg are all “white noise.”
Disagree. This race is down to Roberti and Bernier. Clark isn’t going anywhere. Donovan doesn’t fit the district (even Democrats acknowledge this).
