Democrats Issue Code Blue in New England. Bill Clinton to the Rescue.

Former President Bill Clinton will campaign for Connecticut United States Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal a week from today–and will also spend some time in the Boston area for Congressman Barney Frank. We noted on Friday that it sounds an alarm when the Democrats’ star campaigner is spending time in indigo regions five weeks before the election.  He’d usually be deployed to traditional battleground states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, and even Wisconsin in the final phase of this long campaign year.  In a more promising year, he’d spend a fall Sunday making forays into North Carolina or Indiana. Instead, he’ll be guarding party reliables in two New England states Democrats usually have locked away in their column from the start. In January, polls showed Mr. Blumenthal leading Republican Linda McMahon by more than 40 points.  Today, it’s a toss-up for a seat Democrats have held since 1962, when Republican incumbent Prescott Bush (the one who started it all) declined to run for re-election.

Always entertaining Howie Carr wrote about it in a Saturday column for the Boston Herald.  He notes that Mr. Frank’s nutty opponent in last week’s Democratic primary snagged 19% of the vote.  Here’s more on the visit and Mr. Frank’s cranky reply to questions about it.  Republicans have many targets, but this one could prove irresistible if Sean Bielat’s campaign begins to take flight.  Mr. Frank may have some trouble pouring his trademark scorn on this Republican.  Take a look at his campaign website and short, earnest video.  The most unusual things can happen in Massachusetts.

On the plus side though, the Dept of Labor is now investigating the WWE for classifying their wrestlers as “independent contractors”.

For evidence of just how desperate things are getting for the Dems, check out Rick Green’s latest meltdown, flailing around and lashing out at McMahon.

Blumenthal supporters are about 2 weeks from turning on each other like a real-life Lord of the Flies.

The tightening of the gubernatorial race has nothing to do with Linda McMahon’s positive qualities, and everything to do with her money. If Blumenthal had her wherewithal at his disposal the last few months, she’d be down by 25. A person who wants a senatorship as her toy does not deserve the post. She wasn’t interested enough in public service to even vote in many elections. A poor example as a voter; pathetic as a senatorial hopeful.

You’re right, Craftsman. It’s only because of her money. You and the rest of the Blumy cronies keep telling yourself that as Linda cruises right into office.

Sean Bielat just released a poll today showing him down 10 and Barney Frank under 50.

This is not a social visit by former President Clinton. There’s some serious ground shifting out there
