Foley Championing Income Tax supporter for Running Mate

Republican nominee for governor Tom Foley said on Monday he would not designate a running mate. Several hours after winning the convention’s nomination, Foley is escorting former state Representative Lenny Winkler around the floor as she tries to gather votes for lieutenant governor.

Winkler gained infamy among Republicans when she cast a crucial vote in 1991 to enact a state income tax after opposing it.

Winkler lost her bid for an open Republican state senate seat in 2006, running what was seen as a lackluster, lazy campaign.

Seen as a Foley move to oust Fedele mate Boughton. Foley spreading rumors. Someone printed and distributed the lede from this post and Foley delegates are p***ed.

The resentment underlying Fedele’s tactics are understandable considering the fact that he spent more than three years assuming that if Snow White chose not to run, then he was the Chosen One.

Foley and Boughton need to figure out how to make nice before August rolls around. Over the next few weeks at least, it will be more interesting to see how Boughton addresses the awkwardness. The Office of Lieutenant Governor is already, by its nature, a somewhat peculiar form of political purgatory. For a person who’s relationship with the governor is poisoned from the get-go, it would no doubt feel like Dante’s Inferno.

Talk about backhanded tactics dissing Lennie Winkler, who has more integrity than others mentioned in this blog. I recall a gay state rep who voted AGAINST the gay right’s bill in 1990. Where’s the justice in that??
