He’s In. McKinney to Announce for Governor Tuesday.

State Senator John McKinney (R-Fairfield) will file a candidate committee for the Republican nomination for governor in 2016 on Tuesday, Daily Ructions has learned. The minority leader is expected to face 2012 gubernatorial nominee Tom Foley and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton.

McKinney, 49, will skip the exploratory phase of the campaign. He will participate in the state’s public financing campaign program. If he raises the requisite quarter million dollars in small contributions, McKinney will have more than $2 million for a primary race with self-funder Foley.

McKinney is in his 8th term in the state Senate and is a familiar and popular figure in the primary vote-rich southwestern region of Connecticut.
