Janet Peckinpaugh on Listening Tour of 2nd Congressional District

Popular former television news anchor and reporter Janet Peckinpaugh is considering a bid for the Republican nomination for Congress in the sprawling 2nd congressional district that covers eastern Connecticut.  The Essex resident, who became a Republican in March, has been urged by Republicans to consider making the race, and she is.

The public relations consultant is listening to Republicans around the district and sounded interested in making the race late Friday afternoon.  Peckinpaugh, who worked as a staffer in the United States Senate before breaking into the news business, could prove a tempting choice for Republicans when they meet to select a nominee in 3 weeks.   Peckinpaugh’s received a warm welcome among Republican regulars as she’s accompanied lieutenant governor hopeful Lisa Wilson-Foley to party gatherings.  She’s nobody’s understudy, and has made an impression on party leaders.

If this year is poison for politicians, Pechinpaugh would provide a stark contrast to incumbent Democrat Joseph Courtney.

Peckinpaugh says she’ll listen a little longer and then make a decision. She sounds tempted.

Again Kevin, you forgot to mention “pretend newscaster in commercials for disgraced mortgage lender Lend America” to her resume.

As our economy slowly recovers from economic calamity brought on by a housing bubble that was exacerbated by predatory lenders, Janet Peckinpaugh, a woman who used trust and credibility she built as a newscaster to shill for a mortgage lender that was banned from doing business with the Federal Housing Administration and has fallen apart since, is exactly the kind NOT the kind of person we should be looking to send to Washington.

You’re probably right that this year will prove to be poison for incumbent politicians. But Ms. Peckinpaugh’s involvement with Lend America would almost undoubtedly be poisonous to her candidacy. You are kind enough to massage her resume. Other news outlets, and Joe Courtney, almost certainly would not show Ms. Peckinpaugh the same courtesy.

Here’s the link to the commercials. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, and that’s not her.

“Peckinpaugh, who worked as a staffer in the United States Senate before breaking into the news business,”

Didn’t she work for the Democrats? Kevin why didn’t you specify which party she was working for before “breaking into the news business?”

If she was serious about this she should have gotten in long ago.

Didn’t she used to date Chris Dodd? What about John Rowland?

C’mon Kevin, I know you know all the dirty laundry she has in her closet and I find it very strange that you don’t mention any of it here.

Kevin, another quick question for you – Who are these alleged “party leaders” of which you speak that she’s supposedly made an impression on? I don’t know one RTC Chairman or one Republican State Central person she’s spoken to about this. Republican legislators outside the 2nd CD don’t count so I don’t want to hear about those. There are only two Republican Senators and five Republican Reps and I know for a fact that she’s never spoken to three of those seven as of today.

Kevin
It is also nice of you to forget to mention that she would be coming into the race late and challlenging Daria Novak for the party endorsement. Daria Novak is an extremely popular, qualified, and well organized candidate who has the support of many RTC members and leaders. If Janet is truly interested in a run for office it would be better if she wait until 2012 and establish her base of support and gain a track record with the party.

None of the Republicans in the race have shown any talent in fund-raising.
Self-funding doesn’t work: http://www.bit.ly/bEbWk6

However Ms Peckinpaugh would, I suspect bring enough glamor to the race that she would have little trouble raising money.

There’s *something* about her that’s difficult to quantify; but would absolutely resonate with voters.

As a newscaster, I always found her attractive and credible and am surprised to read (above) that was once a Democrat.

Certainly she kept her own beliefs to herself well enough that this partisan didn’t notice any bias from her ever.

I like both of our candidates currently in the race; but I’d like to return the seat the GOP too and properly managed, Peckinpaugh might be able to deliver it.

She would get a lot attention that’s for sure.

Doug (ACR), there are three candidates in the race for the 2nd CD, not just two, Doug Dubitsky, Daria Novak and Matt Daly. Please get your facts straight. Daly and Novak couldn’t even manage to get named as delegates by their own towns (Glastonbury and Madison). At least Dubitsky is a delegate to his own convention.

ALL candidates including Janet if the decides to get in at this late date are going to have trouble raising money until one of them is the clear nominee, either by winning a primary or being the last one standing. I don’t know why you’re talking about self funding because none of the existing three 2nd CD candidates are self funding their campaigns. Once again, please get your facts straight.

Was Anthony Mozillo unavailable to run? Do any republicans at least agree that the scuzzy Lend America commercials would be a problem for her?

‘The people’ will decide on May 21st who the best candidate is for the 2nd district. Dubitsky and Peckinpaugh are too late to the game. It will either be Daly or Novak…..the delegates will decide which of these two candidates align with their principles and values.

Let the games begin!!!!

I’m with you Fuzzy.. She worked for a convicted felon trying to rip people off. That’s a problem for me, especially given how much we’ve been after Dodd on mortgage issues.

Fuzzy, ask Kevin to name these supposed “Republicans” who are urging her to run. I’m still trying to figure out who they are as no one is naming them or taking credit for talking to her.

>>there are three candidates in the race for the 2nd CD, not just two, Doug Dubitsky,

You’re right of course; my oversight.

EdMfromBranford asks:

>>“..Didn’t she work for the Democrats? “

Don’t look now, but once upon a time long long ago; Ronald Reagan was a Democrat.

Some of the nicest folks have been cured of it.

I read a very revealing article about Janet a month or so ago in the Hartford Courant. Her first marriage was with a violent and abusive man. This article detailed numerous beatings and rapes during this marriage. It would be intersting to see how Janet can use the release of this article (which I am sure she authorized) to her benefit for a Congressional Campaign.

Does Janet really think that the people of Conn. will vote for a member of the lying and complicit media to represent them in Congress? Mr. Chris Healy is more interested in being of influence in the political power world than citizen representation.

Doug Dubitsky (http://dubitsky2010.com) is campaigning where it counts, with the delegates to the convention. The people who have a vote where it counts. Matt and Daria are having trouble getting traction, and it shows. Janet’s entrance into the race is questionable. She’ll have to meet with the RTC’s and convince them she is the real deal, not just a come lately with ambition. Good luck, there is very little time left for her to accomplish this. We need someone who can win, not just garner attention to themselves. The RTCs are not dupes, they are playing attention and they will use their votes wisely. Someone who will rep Eastern Ct and work for us. Take the time to check out http://Dubitsky2010.com

Daria Novak is opening her 2nd headquarters across from Mystic Aquarium with a big, public ceremony Tues. May 11 at 5 pm. She is expecting hundreds of supporters to participate in the opening ceremony. Novak is the only Republican candidate with an organized campaign, over 400 volunteers, and a principled gameplan to beat Courtney. She’s a threat to the State Party power base in New Britain and they know becuase they can’t give her orders, like Courtney gets from Pelosi, and expect her to follow in lockstep. She’s one of us, one of the people. Novak has been campaigning for a long time and has the supprt of the voters. Aren’t they the ones who ultimately count? Dubitsky just rgistered to vote, has no organization, nomoney and no real support. He’s just another lawyer from Hartford jumping in at the last moment. Go to Novak’s website and listen to what she has to say. Then join up. http://www.novakforcongress.com

For those of you posting that Daria is opening her second headquarters in Mystic, that was her first. If you listen to her across the state she is on her 6th or 7th opening. She is not truthful! How about her giveaway to the Rivierera announced recently. WTF, she is certifiable!
