John Judis Spots a Star
In the dynamic world of politics and policy a few things endure. One of them is The New Republic. It’s important to read it. I was reminded of that early this month when the formidable British historian and polemicist Paul Johnson appeared on C-Span’s Book TV. During his afternoon segment he mentioned what he reads. On the short list: The New Republic. That should be enough of a recommendation for anyone.
TNR writer senior editor John Judis reminds us why his magazine is one of the essentials with a smart piece on Florida Republican Senate hopeful (and now frontrunner) Marco Rubio’s speech to the annual hothouse that is the Conservative Political Action Conference. Judis isn’t the only one whose description of the crowded event makes it sound like a seance of the nutty. His take on the talented, surging Rubio may be a glimpse of the Republican future. Bobby Jindal must be grinding his teeth.
