McCoy Gave Thousands to Democrats. Supported Courtney against Simmons. Donated to Lamont in ’06.

Republican Jason McCoy launched his campaign for the United States Senate this weekend on WFSB’s Face the State with Dennis House.  The two-term Vernon mayor he has the experience to help bring order to the nation’s finances.  His campaign contributions tell a different story.

The three-time legislative candidate kicked in $1,500 to Democrat Joe Courtney’s 2006 winning campaign against Republican U.S. Representative Rob Simmons.  Courtney defeated Simmons by 91 votes out of nearly 250,000 cast. McCoy stuck with the liberal Courtney in his first bid for re-election, ponying up $2,400 in the 2008 cycle.  McCoy must have soured on Simmons.  He made two $500 contributions to the Stonington Republican in the 2002 campaign cycle. He donated $500 to Simmons in September, 2010, after he was out of the race for the U.S. Senate.

In 2006, McCoy gave $250 to Democratic Senate challenger Ned Lamont, a self-funder; $250 to Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey in his successful bid to unseat incumbent Rick Santorum; and $500 to Arizona Democrat Jim Pederson in his unsuccessful race against Republican U.S. Senator John Kyl.
