Rescue Mission: DSCC Makes Connecticut Ad Buy to Steady Tumbling Blumenthal.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has placed a 10-day ad buy in Connecticut that begins tomorrow, October 1st, sources tell Daily Ructions.  The assist comes at the end of a bad week for Democrat Richard Blumenthal.  Polls show the 41 point lead the 5-term attorney general enjoyed in January disappearing into the margin of error.

The challenge for Senate Democrats is to allocate resources on a growing number of fronts as other candidates thought to be safe from the rising tide of Republican prospects threatens Democratic control of the Senate.  Money spent on the Blumenthal campaign means there is less available for races that were always expected to be close, such as Illinois and Missouri.

The DSCC ads may try provide some contrast to Mr. Blumenthal’s lackluster campaign by stripping some of the bark off Republican Linda McMahon.  The Democrat may find himself dodging response ads that, Daily Ructions understands, emphasize issues the Democrat would prefer to avoid.  Both sides should prepare for some ugly visuals and ominous voiceovers.

UPDATE: Politico reports the DSCC will spend $300,000 on the Blumenthal buy.

Blumenthal is so afraid to be considered the source of any negative ads that he’s been outright spineless in this campaign. The CT Dem Party created the Mom’s Opposed to McMahon, the National Dem Party sent in TWO PRESIDENTS and now this big ad buy… He’s a political jellyfish…

Senator –

This is about 1% of what the DSCC has on hand – given what is being thrown at Blumenthal, it seems reasonable.
