Senator Slossberg Pushes Emergency Bill to Rescue Case Husband Lost.

A few weeks ago, state Senator Gayle S. Slossberg bewailed the loss of integrity at the state’s election commission’s decision to hire former Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano, a Republican, as executive director and general counsel. The Milford Democrat led opposition to Giuliano, who was defeated for re-election to a third term to lead Middletown in November.  “All I care about is the integrity and independence of the agency, and the confidence that the public places in it,” Slossberg said in January, as the commission prepared to abandon the Giuliano appointment.

A month later, Slossberg has abandoned notions of integrity and public confidence in pursuit of emergency legislation to overturn a local land use case that Milford lost. David Slossberg represented Milford in its attempt to halt a private recycling facility from expanding its permit to construction and demolition material in that shoreline town. The plant, which may bring as many as 200 jobs, has obtained the appropriate permits from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. David Slossberg represented Milford in its failed action to block the final permit process.

Gayle Slossberg is attempting to use the extraordinary emergency certification process, known as an e-cert, to defeat the recycling plant that her husband could not stop in litigation, Daily Ructions has learned. Slossberg has won the reluctant support of Democratic leaders in the Senate for her gambit to get the legislature to intervene in a local zoning matter with legislation that s exempt from the traditional committee review process. House Democrats are pondering the proposal that would stop between 100-200 green jobs from being created in Connecticut without millions in corporate welfare that has become the hallmark of the Malloy administration.

Talks were continuing late Tuesday. No word on how Slossberg’s new definition of integrity at the end of this sordid intervention.
