State Contractor and XL Center Bidder Hosts Fundraiser for Malloy PAC. Lobbyists Co-Sponsor Thursday Event.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy, who once warbled the virtues of campaign finance reform, will join a state contractor at a $750 a ticket fundraiser for Malloy’s political action committee, Prosperity for Connecticut, Daily Ructions has learned. Parking magnate Alan Lazowski and his wife will host the event at their Scarborough Street home on Thursday, December 6th.  LAZ Parking, Lazowski’s company, is a state contractor.

Lazowski is a member of a group seeking the contract to manage Hartford’s XL Center, which is overseen by Malloy’s Capital Region Development Authority. Eric Zachs, another member of the Lazowski XL Center group, is on the host committee of the ill-considered Malloy event, as are several lobbyists associated with the bid to run the venue. Many other lobbyists have cringed upon receiving the invitation to contribute to Malloy’s event.

Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, also a one-time foe of this sort of tawdry fundraising, appears on the invitation with other Democratic officeholders. The event has everything but a hot tub, a charter flight to Las Vegas, and a tax credit for a small airport. If Malloy continues on this path, he’ll be hosting an afternoon radio talk show in a few years. This is how it starts.
