The Sorry Tale of Sheila Burgess.

Congratulations to the Boston Globe for telling the tale of the director of the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division. Sheila Burgess is a hack who’s held the $87,000 a year job since 2007, the first year of Governor Deval Patrick’s administration. What a shoddy background check they performed on the Democratic campaign worker. The Globe’s Sean Murphy revealed that Burgess has dozens of violations on her driving record, including one in New Hampshire at which she failed to appear in court. Burgess has been out of her office on paid medical leave since she was in a one-car accident in August.

Patrick said he was dismayed at the news of the highway safety honcho’s serial violations. Thanks to the Globe story Burgess was assigned to a different job but has not returned to work.

Howie Carr interprets the events.
