Time to Think About Sentencing
Convicted felon and Harford mayor Eddie Perez must think that Superior Court Judge Julia Dewey does not read the papers. She’ll notice how Perez conducts himself between Friday’s jury guilty verdicts and his September sentencing. In the 5 days since the jury rejected his dyslexia defense, Perez hasn’t helped himself by hanging on to the office he disgraced.
A letter that purports to be a letter of resignation but includes no effective date is meaningless. That’s what Perez proposes to submit on Friday. This unnecessary pycho-drama provides port-trial evidence that Perez is more interested in accumulating every grimy advantage at any cost to the commonweal. Incoming mayor Pedro Segarra will want to reconstruct the details of how the secluded Perez is tying up “loose ends” in his final days. Every minute he spends in office injuries the city he professes to love.
Just go.
