Where in the Arc of the Story Are We?

More bad news for the beleaguered Susan Bysiewicz campaign in a front page story in The Courant.  Jon Lender reports that Secretary of the State’s office created a database of 36,000 people who contacted her office and then forwarded that information to her campaign committee.  Solicitations for support and funds followed.  Offices collect all sorts of information but this database appears to have had one purpose:  gather names for the ceaseless Bysiewicz political operation.  Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s office is investigating.

This comes less than a week after Blumenthal delivered a blow to Bysiewicz with his response to her inquiry about the constitutionality of a state statute requiring the attorney general to have 10 years of “active practice” at the bar.  Blumenthal said the law is constitutional but someone else will have to decide if Bysiewicz meets the standard.

A month ago, Bysiewicz was the frontrunner for governor.  Today, she has made herself the prey of her many detractors, now emboldened by her month of blunders.  A powerful caucus has discovered itself.  Nearly everyone in or around Connecticut politics has a tale of an unpleasant encounter with Susan Bysiewicz.  The trod-upon are exchanging stories, looking for openings, and finding ways to strike.  While the rest of politics is riven with divisions, among the multitudes who’ve been trampled upon by Bysiewicz unity reigns.  For them, spring has come early this year.

A career politician implodes. As Ralph Kramden of the Honeymooners liked to say, “How sweet it is!”
