Wilson-Foley Loses a Campaign Co-Chair. Henry Jumps to Roraback. What of Witkos?

Simsbury Republican Lisa Wilson-Foley has lost one of her 5th Congressional District campaign co-chairs. Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry will support party-endorsed Republican state Senator Andrew Roraback, Daily Ructions has learned. Wilson-Foley announced her triple gets of Henry, state Representative Dan Carter, and state Senator Kevin Witkos on July 27th last year, calling them “exemplary leaders.”

At the time, Henry, who was a leader in U.S. Representative Nancy Johnson’s winning 2002 and 2004 campaigns, said of Wilson-Foley, ” Lisa is driven, capable, and has demonstrated her commitment to creating jobs right here in the Fifth District.  I know she will be a superb representative for us in Congress.” The buffeting of events caused by Wilson-Foley’s imprudent and furtive alliance with felonious former Governor John G. Rowland appears to have caused Henry to revise her opinion.

The Henry endorsement of Roraback could put pressure on state Senator Kevin Witkos. As a state representative in 2004, Witkos was one of the first Republican legislators to call on Rowland to resign as governor in the scandal that would send him to prison. A recently-retired law enforcement officer, Witkos cannot be pleased that the campaign he leads as co-chair has become enmeshed in a federal criminal investigation of Rowland and his dealings with Wilson-Foley.
