It probably took more evidence to convince Stan Twardy of a suspect’s innocence when he was United States Attorney than it did in his expensive wanderings through Christopher Donovan’s beleaguered congressional campaign. No access to primary actors in the fundraising scandal. He won’t say what questions he asked Donovan. Twardy had no access to important email accounts. Laura Jordan, still a top Donovan aide in the legislature, refused to submit to an interview.

A public spirited reader of Daily Ructions points out that one of  Twardy’s law partners at Day Pitney, Ernest J. Mattei, is the father of the Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Mattei, who is overseeing the Donovan fundraising investigation.
