Jane Russell, Self-Proclaimed “Right Wing, Narrow Minded,” Departs Stage at 89.
Jane Russell, who enjoyed an extended heyday from the 1940s far into the 1950s, has died in California at 89. Miss Russell enjoyed conservative politics, particularly after she sobered up late in her long life.
Here she is in her favorite movie, “Gentleman Prefer Blondes”, having fun and holding her own with the singular Marilyn Monroe. The title of the 1953 hit declared who was the star of the film. Watch Miss Russell wink at the camera at about the minute mark. The joke was never on her.
French and Saunders carry off a parody of the famous “Little Rock” routine. It’s the sort of bit that would have made full-figured Jane Russell laugh.
