Again: Allie-Brennan turns himself in on new larceny charges.

State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan turned himself in to Bethel police Monday in response to a new arrest warrant on larceny charges. The Bethel Democrat was arrested in June for allegedly stealing merchandise from a Target store in his hometown.

At the time of his June arrest, Allie-Brennan claimed in a written statement, “I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags and I was juggling multiple purchases. While I do not have a record, I take full responsibility for the error and am working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully.”

The charges in July’s warrant preceded June’s incident. It likely was supported by video of Allie-Brennan in the store in his district.

Allie-Brennan had been expected to turn himself in to Bethel police last week. His decision to show up at the local gendarmerie Monday came as police had been looking for him.

The fourth term legislature has maintained his profile on social media since his arrest in June, prompting considerable ridicule and mockery from the local online commentariat.
