Andrew Fleischmann Wins Nationwide Search to Lead Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters.

State Representative Andrew Fleischmann (D-West Hartford) has been named to CEO and President of Nutmeg Big Brothers and Sisters at the conclusion of a nationwide search for a new leader. Fleischmann was elected to the legislature in 1994 and has for the past six years been at the helm of  Speedreading People, a communications training firm.

“I can think of few organizations that help children more profoundly than Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said Fleischmann in a press release. “Studies show that the support it gives at-risk children makes them less likely to become involved with drugs, alcohol, or crime. And it makes them more likely to stay in school, get good grades and reach their full potential. I am honored and excited to have been selected as Nutmeg’s next President & CEO, and can’t wait to get started.”

According to the statement from Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters,  the organization is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. It helps its clients, children from single- and no-parent homes, to avoid negative behaviors and embrace positive pursuits and passions. Nutmeg does this by creating and maintaining one-on-one relationships between children and professionally-screened inspirational adult volunteers. Based in Hartford, Nutmeg was founded in 1966. It is funded, in part, by United Way organizations. It offers services to thousands of youngsters in 111 of the state’s 169 municipalities.
