Before the Jury Speaks.
Eyes around Hartford are still rolling at Mayor Eddie Perez’s dsylexia defense to explain why he didn’t see a critical email at issue in his trial for bribery and fabricating evidence arising out of 000,04$ in initially free kitchen and bathroom renovations. It preposterous claim gives rise to this inquiry:
What other bizarre defenses might Team Perez have considered and discarded as too farfetched? Imagine the conversations, each ending with, “We’d better stick with dyslexia. Hey, Eddie, better leave you BlackBerry at home tomorrow.”
Don’t be surprised if the dyslexia defense hits the jurors’ shoals because they’ve seen him reading in the courtroom. Perez may soon regret not taking the state’s offer the, we hear, would have kept him out of jail and public office, but allowed him to retain his pension.
