Blumenthal Chief of Staff Rubiner to Reporter: “We’ll Remember This.”

That didn’t take long. United States Senator Richard Blumenthal’s chief of staff, Laurie Rubiner, must have depleted her well of charm during her first month on the job.  In response to inquiries about her boss by Deidre Shesgreen of the Connecticut Mirror, Rubiner let loose with the menacing declaration that holds the attention of its target: “We will remember this.”

It might be Rubiner’s first experience scrambling to contain a Sergeant Blumenthal whopper.  This time he claimed to have been a soldier in another war, abortion.  He declared at a Washington press conference, “Since the days of Roe v. Wade, when I clerked for Justice Blackmun, as a state legislator, as attorney general, I have fought this battle.” Whoops, he didn’t clerk for Justine Blackmun until the year after Roe v. Wade was decided.

Rubiner, who’s been through a lot of jobs in the past few years, tried without success to minimize Blumenthal’s claim.  The Connecticut fantasist had limited his nutty recollections to home state appearances spinning tales of his days wearing the uniform in Vietnam, the war in which he never served.  Now he’s showcasing his bizarre psyche on Washington, D.C.’s larger stage.  Rubiner, who left Hillary Clinton’s Senate staff several years ago to eradicate malaria and  then swiftly abandoned that calling for Planned Parenthood, may find managing Blumenthal a trial, and not, for example, the orderly kind you get at a local courthouse.

Blumenthal should have Rubiner resign. First, threats cannot be tolerated. Second, she appears incompetent. Third, she’s been in the press more than Blumenthal.
