Blumenthal Hits the Air Wednesday.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, the Democratic nominee for the United States Senate, returns to the airwaves Wednesday, having stayed off television during the crowded run-up to today’s party primaries.  Blumenthal has a modest buy that could allow him to try to set the stage of the coming conflagration with Linda McMahon, who leads in today’s Republican Senate primary.  Politicos and advertising sales departments in Connecticut and New York anticipate a brisk fall.

McMahon has pledged to spend as much as $50 million of her vast fortune in her bid.  Blumenthal is also, as Tom Foley often says of Mike Fedele, a man of means. He gave a big boost to his first campaign for attorney general in 1990 by shoveling nearly $250,000 in it, which at the dawn of generous wealthy candidates in Connecticut seemed like a big chunk of change.  Blumenthal was in a tight battle with popular New London Democrat Jay Levin for the Democratic nomination for attorney general that year.  Money changes everything.
