Bysiewicz Distorts 2010 Role in Bridgeport Fiasco.

Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is rewriting recent history again. The chronic candidate, now running for the 2012 Democratic nomination for the United States Senate, appeared Sunday on WFSB’s “Face the State” and administered a beating to the truth. In reviewing her disastrous 2010, the Middletown Democrat claimed credit for keeping the polls open at Bridgeport polling places that had run out of ballots.

In response to host Dennis House’s question about the fiasco, Bysiewicz said, “I went to court at 7:15 on election night and got an unprecedented extra 2 hours so that everyone who wanted to vote got it.” That action, however, was brought by the state’s Democratic party, not Bysiewicz, who was the defendant in the action. She initiated no action to keep the polls open. In fact, the assistant attorney general representing her office opposed the extension of the polling hours during the fraught hearing in Hartford Superior Court. After the lawyers made their closing arguments, Bysiewicz told the court she favored the extension.

By no common meaning of the English language can Bysiewicz take credit for the extension of voting hours at the chaotic Bridgeport polling places. She reacted, she did not initiate. She stumbled so badly that night that she failed to instruct her lawyer of her interpretation of the law, and now she’s making claims that are not true.
