Connecticut Democrats Welcome Shays Back to State From Maryland.

Connecticut Democrats assembled a smorgasbord of talking points in issuing a pungent welcome to Maryland resident Christopher Shays to Connecticut for his nascent campaign for the United States Senate.  The former Republican congressman, a DC insider who, according to a spokesperson for the Connecticut Democratic party, wants to gut Medicare and prolong wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Christopher Shays’ long record in Congress provides many rich targets for Republican and Democratic opponents without having to stretch or misshape facts.  Shays had been defeated for re-election in 2008 before President Barack Obama implemented a surge in United States military forces in Afghanistan.  Senate Democratic frontrunner Congressman Christopher Murphy, however, supported the buildup in American troops in Afghanistan during the Obama administration.

Shays was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War, when he might have been called to serve.  He became a hawk in Congress when he only had to send others into battle, not go himself.
