CT Senate Race Gets Attention With McMahon Edging Into Lead.
The Rothenberg Political Report moves the Connecticut Senate race from Democrat Favored to Lean Democrat on the wings of Republican Linda McMahon’s strong showing in recent polls and her reintroduction to state voters. Analysis includes this: “A shift down the road to the Toss-up category does not seem impossible.” That will depend on how the Republican nominee withstands the inevitable barrage of wrestling images that will appear on television screens soon.
Nevertheless, McMahon has given national Republican strategists something to talk about in place of the Missouri plunge in polls that Senate hopeful Todd Akin brought on himself with astounding comments on rape, pregnancy and abortion. Party campaign professionals are talking up McMahon in Tampa in an effort to change the subject from Missouri.
There are always a couple of Senate surprises in a cycle, McMahon looks like the start of one this week.
UPDATE: Chris Keating has a post on a PPP survey that puts Murphy ahead of McMahon 48%-44%, based on a survey of 881 voters.
