Linda: There are many ways to create a job. One is to grab a video camera, find a bunch of drunk teenage girls and get them to take their tops off. A second way is to have large men in tight shorts smash during skits and have girls in underwear jump on top of each other in a ring. That’s how you create jobs. Right, Linda???
You create jobs by hiring someone to create a product or a service that people want to pay you for at a price and a quality that the purchaser is looking for. You will of course need some profit in order to save for a rainy day, expand your operation and improve the quality and efficiency of your product or service.
Three things are operative about this in the context of this post. First, someone wanted what Linda was selling. Second, it doesn’t put Linda up for the Nobel Prize for economics – it’s obvious. Third, just because you can be obvious and your opponents’ debate IQ operates at room temperature, it still doesn’t tell us squat about how to fix the problem or meet the complex requirements of doing so.
Whoever wins this senate race will have one hell of a time fixing the problems. Unless that person is willing to try and understand the special purpose vehicles, tax incentives, mortgage fraud, currency issues, trade agreements AND the constitutional infringements that got us into this mess, our response to obvious should be simple: “Go home!”. Note that I’m saying “try”, as in present something new you’ve learned at least every week.
We’re better off not having any representation in that senate seat if that’s the best we can come up with. This is because it’s only a matter of time before someone smarter puts just enough wrong economic ideas in such a person’s head while delusionally calling them “free market” or “constitutional”, which such ideas never end up being. And as we’ve seen with Scott Brown, you can do some serious damage in the first year alone.
I salute the GOP for finding a candidate who can successfully open a door without risking injury. But in all honesty, it continued its role as part of the problem by leaving that as just good enough.
Otherwise, the recent debate wasn’t exactly Evander Holyfield versus Mike Tyson. It was more like a ping pong match among quadraplegics.
