Don’t Blink. Red Light Camera Bill Dead For Now.

The legislature’s Judiciary Committee dealt a blow to red light camera manufacturers’ scheme to kidnap sound public policy by killing their proposal at noon.  The committee, which had become a crucial battleground over the controversial proposal, declined to act on the bill, effectively killing it in its freestanding form.

The loose rules of the Connecticut legislature on attaching amendments to bills mean opponents of the proposal could pop up in the remaining five weeks of the legislative sessions.  Proponents, however, will need to assess whether they want to push for a major battle in both the House and Senate after today’s decisive defeat. If they’d had the votes today, they would have voted.
