Foley Campaign: Calling All Tales of Fraud.
The Tom Foley campaign is having a busy post-election weekend. The Foley brain trust and other recruits are canvassing Republican leaders and foot soldiers for examples of fraud at polling places around the state. The campaign is hoping to collect evidence of irregularities from credible sources, put them together and make a case that gets the former ambassador within the zone of 2,000 or fewer votes of the apparent winner, Democratic and Working Families nominee Dannel Malloy. If Foley can get into the zone, he’ll seek a statewide recount.
Foley’s soliciting and receiving a lot of advice, as is his custom. Some on his team like to be at the center of Republican insiderdom but are chary about playing a prominent role in what may become a fierce fight to exclude votes from being counted. To be associated with such an effort, which is likely to fail, could harm future political prospects of the ambitious.
Successfully challenging the result of a close state election in which 1.1 million voters participated is a mighty and complicated task. It will take more than a file of random anecdotes accompanied by cellphone photos and video to convince a judge to tamper with what looks like a Malloy victory. The Foley war room needs to produce numbers that differ from the ones submitted by election officials in the state’s 169 cities and towns.

Enough said. Mr. Malloy is better qualified, and clearly the winner.
The appropriate time for this was election day. Had the Foley campaign and the CTGOP had an election day monitoring plan in place perhaps things would have been different. They should have had volunteers (and lawyers) in place at the polls recording incidents on Flip video cameras and strenuously objecting to the irregularities as they occurred. As it is now they face a tremendous hurdle attempting to overturn the results after the fact.
It seems to me that the problems that are universally acknowledged here caused too few, not too many, people to vote in Bridgeport. What would help Foley would be tales of ballots running out in Greenwich or Southbury or other heavily Republican towns.
