Foley On Fedele’s Bibb Ad.
Tom Foley accused Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele during today’s debate of manufacturing out of whole cloth, his striking ad about Foley’s stewardship of a shuttered Bibb plant in Georgia. Foley claimed the people giving testimonials had not been employees of the company, were treated to a sumptuous lunch and handed scripts.
Fedele denies those charges.
I asked Foley’s campaign in an email what he based his claim on. His spokesperson’s reply:
“Some of Tom’s friends in the area, including the owners of the property, called Tom and described what the film crew had done.”

To elaborate, we already know that Fedele is a scum bag liar. He continues to claim (and says in commercials) that Tom Foley “paid himself” $20 Million as Bibb went down. Tom has stated several times that the money was paid to a management company (the NTC group) in Greenwich, which employs people in Connecticut, for the services they gave Bibb. Bibb went down years after those fees were collected.
It’s no surprise that Fedele used actors for his commercial as well.

If the Foley people had any evidence to support their claims they would have produced it. They haven’t. Probably because it is pure fiction.
So… Foley’s evidence is hearsay versus the testimony of former Bibb employees? ‘Top Secret Tom’ will have to do better than that.

The fact is – our people placed a small ad looking for former Bibb employees, in one newspaper and were overwhelmed by the response.

1: NTC was Foley’s company, owned 90% by himself.
2: One can only imagine what these supposed “services” might have been; either way it appears the effect was fatal to Bibb.
Foley can claim anything he likes – but the SEC documents clearly don’t agree.
It would seem Foley might be somewhat mistaken; like when he didn’t realize you’re supposed to stop after driving your car into another vehicle instead of just driving off.
How much is Fedele’s Campaign paying ACR to post this trash?
IF, as Foley now claims, he was just “an investor” why was he getting management fees at all?
Foley’s lead down 20 points in Q Poll. Now we know why he is so desperate. In a general election 15 points is a lot. Not in a primary.

Were the employee-actors compensated, financially or otherwise, for appearing in the commercials?
What steps did the campaign take to verify that the folks who appeared had in fact worked for Bibb? Did they show you old pay stubs, or was there a roster you checked them against?
I bet you don’t get an answer to your questions Fuzzy, because I bet the answers aren’t good for the Fedele camp. And obviously none of you know what management fees are, and obviously you don’t like Tom employing people in Connecticut.

NTC Group is an employer that uses its revenues to pay its staff.
Maybe if I think real hard I can come up with an easier way that you might be able to comprehend, but I think it is obvious that that ad is a lie given what it claims versus what actually happened.
And…
Bibb paid those fees prior to 1996, and the company did not go down until 1998. Besides, how are you going to explain the little gaff that Fedele made in the debate when he invented the town of “Bibb Georgia” to say that Tom destroyed a town.
Bibb was in Columbus Georgia (which is still there btw) and Fedele even claims in the ad that it was in Columbus Georgia. So where did Fedele lie? The commercial or the debate?

If any of the candidates had anything of substance to say, had any longstanding and clearly expressed philosophy to espouse, none of this dreck would matter. But when all you’ve got to say is that “I once had a private sector job and haven’t been a political hack my entire life”, this kind of nonsense is inevitable. Did anyone care whether Abraham Lincoln’s law business made a profit? or whether his partner drank too much? or whether he laid off a secretary once? I watched some of the debate, and some of Fedele’s interview on NPR. These candidates are empty suits. If they are not, they are giving precious little evidence otherwise. Of course they are empty suits with Ungodly senses of entitlement and varying degrees of noblesse oblige, beginning from the Mt. Foley of snobbery and going down from there. I just hope Malloy wins his primary, or that someone can get a clone of Gov. Christie up here asap.
What WAS Bibb City, Georgia has since been incorporated into the city of Columbus. The city dissolved after the Bibb closed. This is a fact, not an allegation.

Have any of you dumbasses ever taken a ride out to all the old mill towns in eastern Connecticut? North Grosvenordale, Quinnebaug, Fayban, Wilsonville, Putnam, Dayville, Danielson, Moosup, Central Village, Attawagan, Balouville, Jewett City, Occum, Norwichtown, Taftville, Yantic, Willimantic?
All you see are empty mills unless some kids burned them down already. Mill closings are part of life, get over it.
Have any of you clowns been inside Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford or Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks lately? P&W in East Hartford is pretty much just an empty building. Hell, they already tore half of it down so they wouldn’t have to pay taxes on it anymore.
The manufacturing jobs have been leaving here and from much of the entire country steadily over the past 20 to 30 years and we can argue all day as to who the bad guys here are (unions or “big business”) but none of that crap matters, FACTORIES CLOSE ALL THE TIME.
Oh and agressivenutmeg, it’s a damn GOOD thing when “Company Towns” close down according to all the union screamers. Just ask any of the old timers in the eastern Connecticut old style “Company Towns” like Willimantic where American Thread supposedly controlled every aspect of the worker’s lives. I say good riddance to “Bibb City” let the people be FREE! Long live the Union Man!

EdMfromBranford – glad to hear you’re no longer denying that Bibb City, Georgia existed. Unlike Tom Foley. That’s a start. If you recall he said during the New London debate “The town didn’t disappear” and that “it’s still in very good shape.”
Perhaps you should let him know that it did disappear but that as you said it was, “a damn GOOD thing” that it did. Maybe he can start taking credit for it.

The textile industry has been withering on the vine for a long time in the United States. From the sketchy evidence available, I see nothing to convince me that this Bibb company would somehow be bucking the trend. In fact, if they were successful and profitable, they wouldn’t have been acquired.
I distrust this ad – not because I am a fan of Foley…I actually don’t much care for Foley or Fedele frankly. I dislike the vicious trend in political ads. I dislike the fact that after these nasty knock-em-down, drag-em-outs the Republican party actually expects everyone to support the winner of the primary. Just reading these posts, I see people so vehement in their opinions that I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t vote for Lamont or Malloy if their man doesn’t win.
There is also something that rings false in the narrative of the ‘former employees’. I taught middle school for a long, long time. In that time, I’ve developed a sense for bull. My nose is twitching a bit, here. Could they be employees? Sure. I would be more willing to believe it if Fedele posted up some proof that these weren’t just shills.
It’s unfortunate that we have reached a point where we have problems trusting political ads. After all, we will have to trust ONE of these people to run our state when the dust settles. If they are willing to be so vicious, nasty, and mean-spirited to win office – what will they do to keep it?

The buildings, the people, the streets and everything else that was there on December 6, 2000 were all still there on December 7, 2000 when the mill town charter was dissolved more than two years after the mill closed. The mill burned down in 2008, so you and I can agree that the building did indeed “disappear.” Was that Tom Foley’s fault too? Did the town of Chatham, CT “disappear” when it changed its name to East Hampton in 1915? No it did not, it’s still there. If you don’t believe me, follow Route 66 east out of Middletown and you’ll find it. Don’t tailgate or cutoff anyone during your trip or you might find a Sonic strawberry milkshake tossed into your car.
Your disappearance from this planet would be a vast improvement for mankind as we’d no longer be subjected to your preposterous, absurd and nonsensical blather.
