Foley to Appear on Felonious Former Governor’s Radio Program.
I saw Republican candidate for governor Tom Foley at WFSB last night. We were recording separate segments of “Face the State” with host Dennis House. The Greenwich plutocrat seemed confused when I asked if it was true he will appear this afternoon on Waterbury economic development official John Rowland’s WTIC-AM radio program. Rowland, you may recall, resigned as governor on July 1, 2004, having been caught in a corruption scandal that sent him to jail in 2005. Federal law enforcement authorities connected the dots in Rowland’s illegal schemes and found he’d accepted charter airplane flights in exchange for tax credits. Rowland entered a guilty plea on December 23, 2004.
When he dropped that befuddled act he sometimes tries to put over, Foley admitted he’s scheduled to go on the air with Rowland today. For the record, the man who thinks a normal divorce case involved the parties filing hundreds of motions against each other, believes it is harsh to refer to Rowland as a felon. The former ambassador believes in forgiveness, but thinks it’s too soon for disgraced former New York governor Eliot Spitzer to have been given a show on CNN. Spitzer resigned after the New York Times reported he had hired prostitutes. Spitzer was not prosecuted.
Foley was joined at the Rocky Hill studio by his wife, who seems charming (who can explain the ways of the heart?) and a press aide. He arrived in that enormous campaign bus.
Dennis conducted separate interviews with Foley and Democrat Dan Malloy. Dennis and I talked in the third segment about the race for governor and other contests. The show airs Sunday at 11 a.m.

Tom Foley on a felon’s radio show. Gosh, this IS tempting. But I won’t go there.
I will simply ask a few simple, civil questions that I am sure are on many CT women voters’ minds:
1. Tom Foley, why did you not reveal your two arrests and your security clearance problem BEFORE running for Governor?
2. Tom Foley, why did you keep those bad facts hidden until you were OUTED by the reporter’s investigation?
3. Tom Foley, if you had not been found out by the Hartford Courant, were you NEVER going to reveal those covered-up facts about your ARRESTS?
4. If YOU were not the root cause of the Bibb Bankruptcy and all those thousands of layoffs, will you please explain very clearly and in detail, what you think the root cause was? And, as the company was clearly in decline, why did you take such huge “management fees” out of it?
5. Why do you refer to your first DIVORCE as “routine?” It sounds like the battle of the century, including lots of protracted ugliness about the custody of your son. (He is charming in your staged TV commercial, no kidding, but that does not change my troubled opinion about you, sir). I read an article where your marriage counselors called it a “power play” by you, to take your son away from his mother. That report can be searched on Google by any reader. The prolonged warfare of your divorce from Lisa Foley should give pause to every woman in the voting booths on Nov. 2nd.
Mr. Foley, I don’t think the State of Connecticut should have a Governor who has to keep explaining-away his arrests and numerous other negative character factors.
Mr. Malloy has plenty of flaws, too, but they are nothing compared to the deeper fissures that you seem to keep masking with your over-the-top TV ads that are choking the airwaves at the cost of $$$Millions.

It comes down to trust and track record.
I feel that Malloy, though far from perfect, can be trusted to fulfill a public servant agenda, and his track record in Stamford shows he knows how to get things done in the CT political context, which is crucial.
I feel that Foley has not earned my trust, because of so many black marks like his arrests, his massive layoffs, his federal security clearance problem, even his terrible divorce. ANd he has NO track record for working the difficult political system of CT. ALl he wants to do is shake things up as the cavalier outsider–SORRY, that will fail. Foley looks like he’s trying to buy the election with his wealth, and I do not trust that factor, either.
Trust and track record: MALLOY WINS ON BOTH. Foley loses on both.
