Former Republican legislator is running for State Treasurer.

Two-term former state representative Fred Wilms has formed a campaign committee for State Treasurer. The Norwalk Republican and banker served in the House from 2015 to 2019.

Wilms won a second term without a Democratic opponent in 2016. He came to grief two years later when Democrats nominated Lucy Dathan to oppose Wilms. She defeated him by 9%. Dathan defeated him by more in a 2020 rematch.

If nominated, Wilms is likely to face Democratic rising star Erick Russell, the first term incumbent.
