Former Waterbury Chief Admits Winning Super Bowl Pool.

Former Waterbury Police Chief Neil O’Leary tells the Republican-American that he and three others purchased the winning box in a $100,000 cash 2009 Super Bowl pool.  Mr. O’Leary declined to identify his four so-investors in the $1,000 box.  He told the paper, which gave cheerful,  low-key treatment to the story in its Brass Tacks column, that Waterbury State’s Attorney John Connelly was not one of the four other investors in the lucky and still anonymous quintet.

Mr. O’Leary, who was still serving as Waterbury’s police chief at the time of the big wager, has since retired and now serves as chief of the nearby Wolcott department.  O’Leary tells the Waterbury paper that he paid taxes on his winnings.  Wolcott officials may want to know more about O’Leary’s gaming habits as citizens in jurisdictions outside Waterbury would find it unusual for a chief of police to be involved in high stakes gambling.
