Greenberg Put $265,000 into Campaign in July

Pre-primary campaign finance reports are available at fec.gov.  In Connecticut’s 5th congressional district Republican primary race, Litchfield resident Mark Greenberg lent $$65,000.00 to his campaign on July 15th and an additional $200,000.00 on six days later.  Through July 21st, Greenberg’s campaign had donated or lent his campaign nearly $1 million and had collected other donations of $255,083.77.

Greenberg’s spending far exceeded his two opponents’.  State Senator Sam Caligiuri collected $43,913.00 during the first three weeks of July.  He had $80,287.98 on hand at the close of the period.  Plainville Republican raised $9,875.00 in the same period and had $95,867.53 as the August 10th primary approached.

Greenberg has been on the air with a populist message and some broadsides at Caligiuri, who won the party endorsement at the May convention.

The Republican candidates in the 2nd district continue to post numbers that would make legislative candidates nervous.  As of July 21st, endorsed candidate Daria Novak had $18,616.94 on hand.  Janet Peckinpaugh showed $16,083.77, with Doug Dubitsky holding on to a mere $4,395.46.  These are not the sort of fundraising numbers that attract the attention of Republican fundraisers and strategists sorting through their list of promising races across the nation.
