Griebel Has $99k as Primary Nears.
Republican candidate for governor Nelson “Oz” Griebel raised $151,490 between April and June. The Simsbury Republican spent nearly $300,000 in the second quarter, leaving him with $99,318.61 on June 30th. With the primary four weeks away, Griebel will need to find a way free way to breakthrough frontrunner Tom Foley’s lead.
Griebel’s 2nd quarterly haul was considerably less than the $272,276 he raised in individual contributions in the 1st quarter of the year. The money raising trend is in the wrong direction for Griebel, who’s seemed to have found his voice as a candidate in recent weeks. It’s hard to be heard in a primary crowded with races and several lavish self-funders.

No surprise here. He collected his low hanging fruit for the April report and his fund raised has pretty much dried up along with his campaign. On a brighter note, he has more than ten times cash on hand than Mike Fedele.
Kevin FYI, Tom Foley isn’t a “self-funder” like Linda McMahon. He is raising plenty of money the old-fashioned way, just like he’s done for MANY Republicans for MANY years by raising it from individuals.
Tom Foley is trying to buy the Governorship. Pure and simple. Sorry Tom, the job is not for sale.
Mike Fedele thinks he can “inherit” the governorship from Gov. Rell. It seems he’s been cut out of the will, however. Where’s Jodi’s endorsement?
Really Ken? Tom Foley raised $358K from INDIVIDUALS this past quarter bringing his total raised from INDIVIDUALS TO $764K.
That’s not “trying to buy the Governorship” that’s raising money the old fashioned way, the way it should be done.
Kevin, ” NOW YOU KNOW” that Tom Foley raised over three quarters of a million dollars from individuals, are you still going to call him a “self-funder?”
Ed- Fedele has voluntarily limited his fundraising to checks 100 dollars or less. Foley has received some very large donations which result in the high dollar amount. The “Old Fashioned” way still lets large dollar donations play a huge role in campaigns and that is exactly what the CEEP is trying to fix.
Please use some common sense.
Too bad too many people vote based on the poor tv ads rather than researching their candidate’s past as well as their platform.
If people truly voted according to their belief of who would do a better job, Griebel would be Governor.
I have confidence that he’ll be able to get his message out over the next couple of weeks. With the debate coming up on Wednesday he should definitely be more visible to voters. That really seems to be his biggest challenge is getting his name out to voters when he’s competing against the candidates with far more to spend. Hopefully the money won’t end up being the deciding factor.

Anthony, the old-fashioned way doesn’t require multi-millions of PUBLIC funds to pay for campaign consultants, money to make television stations rich and nor does it make politician “dirty” or “corrupt” as the foaming-at-the-mouth supporters of publicly funded campaigns keep insisting. Repeating a lie often enough does not make it the truth, nice try.

Latest poll shows Grebal is even worse off then I gave him credit for. He’s now at a whopping 7% in the latest Quinnipiac poll. That coupled with his pathetic performance in last night’s debate means that he’s in a race with Peter Schiff to see which statewide Republican candidate receives the smallest percentage of the vote in the statewide primaries on August 10th.
