Hotline Says Murphy “Only Serious Candidate” So Far Among Dems in 2012 Battleground Senate Races.
The National Journal’s Hotline On Call dismissed former Democratic Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz’s United States Senate bid in a phrase this weekend. Reviewing the growing challenges facing Democrats in 2012 in the aftermath of the retirement of popular New Mexico incumbent Jeff Bingaman, Hotline surveys the field and finds that in the four open Democratic seats, so far “only one serious candidate has stepped forward in any of the battleground states (Rep. Chris Murphy (D) in Connecticut).”
While the Hotline assessment may not influence many Connecticut Democrats, it will assist Murphy in marginalizing Bysiewicz among national party fundraisers. The third term congressman is hoping, Daily Ructions understands, to gain an insurmountable lead over Bysiewicz in the money primary, squeezing her out of the race for the nomination before the year ends.
UPDATE: Someone at Hotline must have gotten an earful. The online political news site changed its story to include Bysiewicz after this post appeared.

well, now that Murphy has “Bieber fever” I’m sure every 13 year old girl across their country will be sending her allowance to his campaign
Battleground state!? Dick Blumenthal still gave Linda McMahon a 13 point drubbing despite facing the most well financed opponent in state history and almost every conceivable sort of setback except a sex scandal.
I don’t know that I would call Connecticut a “battleground” state quite yet. It’s still pretty blue out there.
Murphy, the opportunistic blatherer of no accomplishment. I live in his district and am very familiar with his campaigns and how he presented himself as some sort of blue dog democrat, noted his adds on the internet are now stating PROGRESSIVE. What exactly has mr Murphy accomplished, all talk and no action, in other words Obam lite. In my opinion he is the poster child for what is wrong with government and politics, all style and no substance.
I agree with Fuzzy. Blumenthal drubbed McMahon despite proving to be a horribly dull candidate and showing a disturbing tendency to misrepresent a key part of his resume. McMahon, too, was flawed since she made her money through exploitation of violence and sex and she never took a position on anything of note. But she had moxy. Blue, blue state.
