Jeff Cohen: Emails Erase Doubts. Treasurer Helped Suspect Insurance Agency Get City Business.

More trouble for Hartford City Treasurer Adam Cloud. His claims to have had nothing to do with the beleaguered insurance broker who does business with the Cloud family takes a bludgeoning from WNPR’s Jeff Cohen. Cohen reports on 2013 emails showing Cloud helping Earl O’Garro’s insurance agency get business from the city. O’Garro’s Hybrid Insurance Group is a tenant in the Cloud family’s 30 Lewis Street property. The state gave Hybrid a generous grant and loan package in 2012 to move from Windsor to the Cloud building in Hartford.

Hybrid was represented by Adam Cloud’s brother’s lobbying firm.

Adam Cloud has asserted a Sergeant Shultz defense as the scandal surrounding a missing $670,000 in city funds that was wired to Hybrid by the treasurer’s office in July. Adam Cloud’s wife initiated the city’s wire to Hybrid.

O’Garro is the subject of numerous investigations for a variety of business dealings.
