Judiciary Hearing Holds Prospect of Confrontation.

Dr. Richard Weber, who won a $725,ooo payment from the State of Connecticut for its malicious prosecution of him for Medicaid fraud, will testify about his long ordeal at Friday morning’s hearing on the nomination of Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Leslie, who prosecuted the Weber case in 2002-2003.  Dr. Weber was an active participant in his defense against the state and in the successful action after the criminal prosecution was dismissed in late 2003.  The Stamford ophthalmologist knows his cases.  He’s conversant in the documents his defense lawyer presented to the state before the case was brought.

In addition, Dr. Weber is familiar with the exculpatory evidence in the possession of the prosecution during the course of the prosecution.  He attended the depositions of the defendants in the successful claim against his tormentors.  His knowledge of details is accompanied by the moral authority of a man who was wronged and fought back.

Friday will will feature a memorable day at the legislature’s Judiciary Committee.
