Tit for tat escalated this week into a noisy round of recriminations between state officials who were friends a year ago.  The state’s top policymakers have been feeling ill-humored since the collapse a few days ago of the proposed concession agreement with state employee unions.  The most disappointed among them was not best pleased to learn from a reporter that a generously compensated state employee had retired and was taking a big double dip.  They expect to be warned of such poorly times events.

On the other hand, a constitutional officer is not a commissioner.  Check the deference tables.  Mischief makers in politics and show business should also recall that a news story’s life can extend beyond the day it’s published.  The target of someone’s ordnance remembers the attack when the rest of the world has proceeded to subsequent news cycles.

When it all explodes, fellas, keep your voices down.  Modulate.  People are listening.
