Lieberman Looks to Avoid ’12 Primary Fight

Sarah Palin sweetheart, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman tells Newsmax that he will likely seek re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2012 as an independent.  The 4-term incumbent would be an underdog for the nomination in either major party in Connecticut.  The Democrats chased him out of their party in an epic 2006 primary with Ned Lamont.  Republicans, who stampeded to Lieberman in droves in that year’s November contest, may have a hard time discerning his bipartisanship in the aftermath of Lieberman providing the crucial 60th vote to for a massive government health care program.

If there’s an incentive for state Republicans to push Lieberman over the finish line first in his bid for a fifth term, it’s somewhere on a distant horizon.

Twenty-four years ought to be enough for anyone.   Take a bow and leave the stage.
