Linda McMahon Has a Lot of Money on Hand.
World Wrestling Entertainment mogul and Republican Senate hopeful reports having $4,302,202 in her campaign bank account. She lent her campaign the round sum of $8 million in the first quarter of this year, bringing the total of her contributions/loans to the campaign to more than $14 million from September through March.
Doing the ciphering, the Greenwich resident has spent $10 million for her surge among Republican primary voters. This week’s Rasmussen survey of Connecticut voters has her 20 points behind Democrat Richard Blumenthal. Whittling that down to a within-the-margin-of-error contest will fill the dreams of political consultants from sea to shining sea. The biggest race in politics this year is between California Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman and McMahon for who spends the most per voter. The former sBay executive, who has not developed into as smooth a performer on the trail as McMahon, has contributed $50 million to her campaign and enjoys a wide lead in the primary and has edged ahead of Democrat Jerry Brown in some polls.
Money on this scale matters, and it’s only April.
