Malloy Names His Price: $25,000 for Access to Governor at DGA Event.
Connecticut Democratic and Working Families Governor Dannel P. Malloy won last year’s election with more than $8 million in public campaign finance funds. That was swerved with regular denunciations of special interests and private donations. Malloy spent the money, scored a narrow win, and has turned the page. Those fat checks from special interests look pretty good when you can extract $25,000 from them for 3 hours of talk.
Malloy, through his shakedown ambassador David Papandrea, has been summoning Connecticut lobbyists and their clients to a Democratic Governors Association CEO Roundtables. Marks report there is nothing subtle in his approach. The first was in Salt Lake City in July. Malloy, who chairs the fundraising scheme, attended that one as his administration announced thousands of state employee layoffs. The next one is in New York on Thursday, September 22nd. They”ll be taking attendance. Two more follow in Charlotte on October 3rd and Los Angeles on December 6th.
The cost of three hours with Malloy is $25,000. The price of admission is not included in the $25,000 a DGA supporter may already pay for jaw time with governors. This is separate because, the command to pay states, this is about “jobs, opportunity, now.” It’s certainly about opportunity. Malloy’s to extract big contributions from people with interests before state government.
Here’s what hostages can expect at the event: “Roundtable meetings will typically include a boardroom discussion followed by a reception and private seated dinner or luncheon for Governors and CEOs.”
