Matt Corey is on maneuvers. Republican candidate for LG releases endorsements of House members.
Manchester Republican Matt Corey announced endorsements of his candidacy for lieutenant governor Wednesday from 14 House Republicans.
Wednesday’s unveiling of endorsements included Tom O’Dea, Dave Rutigliano, Joe Canino, John Piscopo, Anne Dauphinais, Irene Haines, Joe Polletta, Dave Yaccarino, Patrick Callahan, Greg Howard, Nicole Klarides Ditria, Karen Reddington-Hughes, Mark DiCaprio, and Marty Foncello. Corey previously showcased endorsements from House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora and Senate Republican Leader Steve Harding.
The tranche of House Republicans supporting Corey represents legislators from across the state and some ideological diversity in the narrow spectrum of the House Republicans. It is also a reflection of the goodwill Corey has banked over years of running for office in a party that has had to strain to find candidates. During campaigns and off-times, Corey shows up at events around the state. In a party that has become fueled by grievance, Matt Corey is a happy warrior.
Corey ran for the Congress in the 1st Congressional District in 2012, 2014 and 2016, the State Senate in 2020, and the U.S. Senate in 2018 and 2024. He won statewide primaries in 2018 and 2024. In 2018, Corey won 76% of the vote and every town in his victory over challenger Dominic Rapini.
No other Republican has announced his or her candidacy for lieutenant governor. State Representative Tim Ackert (R-Coventry) has been mentioned and may soon make an announcement. The delegate selection process has concluded. Republicans meet May 15th and 16th to endorse candidates for statewide office.
