State Senator John McKinney (R-Fairfield) has collected $138,000 in small contributions toward the $250,000 required to collect millions in public funds for his gubernatorial bid, Daily Ructions has learned. McKinney’s decision to skip the complicated exploratory round of the fundraising program financed by taxpayers looks to be paying off. He is likely to qualify for millions in public funding in the first few months of 2014, a record showing.

Reports are due to the state’s election authority late next week. All eyes will be on reports of McKinney rivals Tom Foley and Mark Boughton.
