It’s not as if there weren’t signs of Michael Hogan’s taste for privilege during his mercifully brief tenure leading the University of Connecticut. They blossomed into bizarre incidents at the University of Illinois that included anonymous emails from his chief of staff to faculty members and other freakish outbreaks of bullying. Hogan resigned today, 20 months after taking the job, the force of thousands of sighs pushing him out the door in disgrace. One suspects more disparaging tales will emerge in the aftermath of Hogan’s leave-taking, to say nothing of what routine audits are likely to reveal.
