Mike Fedele Thought Jodi Rell Wanted to Help Him, Too.

The Hartford Courant reports that Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley believes Governor M. Jodi Rell “has offered to campaign together, depending on our schedules. She’s interested in helping out.”  Mrs. Rell may find her schedule of “reading days” keeps her from the former ambassador’s side.

The governor’s office has to be aware that Mr. Foley repudiated her administration as the August 10th primary race with Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele grew closer.  Mr. Foley tagged Mrs. Rell’s “partner in government” as a “tax and spend liberal” who had supported “one of the largest income tax increases in the history of Connecticut.”  That was Snow White’s 2007 surprise income tax hike proposal.  He also tied Mr. Fedele to the state’s $3.8 billion deficit, which Mrs. Rell has had a bigger hand in creating.

The Fedele record that the Foley campaign excoriated last summer is also the Rell record that Mr. Foley is running from.  It’s what he promises to change.  She’s the leadership Mr. Foley wanted a change from with “a new direction” for broken Connecticut.  Some of those stark mailers may have made their way into the Rells’ Brookfield mailbox.

Why would Tom Foley want the blessing of tax and spend liberal, to use his persistent theme, Jodi Rell?  If it happens, they probably won’t take questions.
