Moments From the Numbers.
Some numbers are more significant than others when campaigns try to spot trends in a long night of waiting for results from Connecticut’s 169 municipalities.
Campaigns began to feel hope or despair as they saw that:
1. The mayors of Bridgeport and New Haven were not delivering hefty margins to Ned Lamont.
2. The 2nd congressional district was no longer a reliable redoubt for Rob Simmons.
3. Mike Jarjura was struggling in Waterbury.
4. Tom Foley would not be home safe and dry until Stamford reported complete returns.
5. The suburbs that supported Ned Lamont in the 2006 primary were his no more.
6. Mike Fedele wasn’t winning many towns, but he was competitive in many more than expected.
7. Linda McMahon’s late in the day calling blitz was matched by increased turnout in targeted towns.
8. Greenwich was giving a thrashing to Ross Garber, who was not breaking through anywhere against Martha Dean.

Connecticut is going to have a Democratic Governor. And the credit goes to………………………..Jodi Rell.
HA. Right on, Ken. Historians may remember Jodi for being the most popular governor in history; Politicians, however, will remember her for the significant damage she has inflicted on her own party. I am convinced that Mike Fedele was the GOP’s best shot (from a weak field) in the general election.
She also may have started a somewhat troubling precedent for second bananas. Having seen Jodi fail to endorse Fedele and watching him subsequently get bashed over the head for the failures of the Rell administration without benefitting at all from Jodi’s popularity, future Lieutenant Governor’s will have little incentive to be particularly loyal to their Governor and will be more likely to speak up when they disagree with an administration.
So true. She complained about how the Roland administration treated her and look at how she treated Fedele…thanks Jodi!
Congrats to Dan Malloy because Foley is NO MATCH for him. Looks like we will soon have a Democratic majority in the legislature yet again and this time, a Democratic Governor and Lt. Governor-scary!
Ned Lamont and Ross Garber learned two things. Endorsements from local political leaders aren’t useful and you never want to be pegged as “the moderate” in a two way ultra-low turnout closed party primary
