News You Can Use From The Honorable Christopher Droney. Read It, You Old Fool.
HR Morning, the place to go for human resources professionals, features Connecticut’s own Christopher Droney, veteran of the federal bench, today. Judge Droney, a former mayor of public employee-laden West Hartford, included in an opinion a useful list of don’ts for employers and other supervisors in dealing with older employees.
It sounds like Judge Droney’s heard a lot of testimony about demeaning bosses. No wonder he’s ready to go to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.
Here are Judge Droney’s things to avoid in maintaining your workplace tyranny, and if they seem too stringent, please review the Ten Commandments.
-employer criticisms of the plaintiff’s performance using degrading, age-related terms,
-invidious comments about others in the employee’s protected group,
-the transferring of plaintiff’s duties to younger employees,
-more favorable treatment of employees not in the protected group,
-the sequence of events leading to plaintiff’s discharge, or
-the termination of two out of three older employees but no younger employees.
