O’Garro and Wife Own Middletown Restaurant. Maybe He Can Be Found There. Hybrid Defaults on State Loan.
Earl O’Garro, the man who refuses to explain where $670,000 in insurance premiums for the city of Hartford have gone, owns a restaurant in Middletown with his wife, Kendra O’Garro. The dish garnering the most attention in this June 13th Hartford Courant feature is called chess pie. O’Garro, however, may be running out of moves as each day passes without the money that City Treasurer Adam Cloud’s wife wired to O’Garro’s Hybrid Insurance Group to pay city insurance premiums turning up at its intended destination, the insurance policy carriers.
The essential Jeff Cohen of WNPR reports that Hybrid Insurance has defaulted on a state loan that enabled the company to move from Windsor to 30 Lewis Street, a building owned by some configuration of the Cloud family.
No word yet on what law enforcement agencies have begun investigating the missing funds, or whether supine Mayor Pedro Segarra will rouse himself to do more than refer the matter to a powerless city government committee.
