Peckinpaugh Posts Dreary Fundraising Numbers.
Janet Peckinpaugh is running for the Republican nomination for Connecticut’s 2nd congressional district but her first fundraising report would not be very impressive in a much smaller state senate campaign. Since entering the race in May, the former television news anchor has raised $32,270.20. She reports 31 contributions, including $4,500 from Republican lieutenant governor Lisa Wilson-Foley.
When the 2nd quarter ended on June 30th, Peckinpaugh had $19,186.92 in the bank. Endorsed candidate Daria Novak showed similar numbers in her report. The finance figures for the third candidate in the August 10th primary, Doug Dubitsky, are not yet available.

At least she’s making good money from Lisa Wilson-Foley!
Too bad Lend America went under. Janet could have just applied for a home equity loan to finance her campaign.
And so there you have it. Janet Peckinpaugh, the savior of the republican party in CT’s 2nd CD is not the fundraising machine that she was purported to be. 31 Contributors??? That is a disaster. How many came from out of district and out of state entirely.
I guess the coveted advice of Ed Munster and Andy Norton (who between the two of them have lost a race for the 2nd CD 5 times), didn’t work out so well after all. But lets not forget that Chris Healy wanted to run her in the 2nd. He knows all about winning this race right? I mean he did a bang up job managing the campaign of Rob Simmons in 2006. O wait. That was the year we lost our last incumbent representative in the 2nd.
Do us all a favor Janet and bow out gracefully.
Although the 2nd is a hard district to predict I do know Peckinpaugh isn’t up to it. Novak, the Republican endorsed candidate, is a former Reagan appointee who started a small company and been working in the private sector for the last 21 years. She received several awards including the highest given to civilians by the US Department of State for her leadership role and managing of foreign policy crises. Those skills certainly are needed now! Novak has lots of supporters, boots on the ground, a couple of headquarters open, phonebank operations underway, a high tech campaign going, is ahead of the others with $50,000+ in fundraising, and is starting to gain national recognition from what I have seen and heard lately. Her campaign goes after Courtney on the issues and she doesn’t get into mudslinging like some of the other candidates. She’s a principled leader who’s got my vote and the support of the people. And, she beat the odds facing off with candidates favored by the state party and won. We are lucky in Eastern CT to have a solid and really great choice in 2010. Republicans need to get out and support Novak and vote for her in the primary on August 10.
Whoa! I see familiar monikers slamming Janet all over the internet. Is that because she is considered by far the front runner for the Second “D” congressional seat? I think so…Her record will clearly speak for itself. Through her many years in journalism she has a thorough knowledge of policy, politics and has more inside understanding in how the system works than Ms. Novak and Mr. Dubitsky. She is dedicated and principled…..and will do an outstanding job. Just you wait!!!
A recent Hartford Courant reported that Peckinpaugh ‘favors a freeze on domestic federal spending, a repeal of the Obama health care law and securing America’s borders against illegal immigrants.’
They went on to point out that ‘These positions don’t vary dramatically from those of her GOP opponents, and Peckinpaugh is candid about relying on her celebrity appeal while she slowly comes up to speed about developing detailed knowledge on the issues.
In that article she admits: “I haven’t read the entire health care bill and I have to rely on what advisers who are close to me tell me is in there,” Peckinpaugh said. “But I think what I bring with certainty to the race is name recognition and people having known me as a broadcaster in Connecticut for 26 years. People meet me and know that I will listen.”
Oh my. Please! Show the people of the great state of Connecticut some respect and do your homework. How dare she run for office on her name and celebrity appeal and then count on ‘those who advise’ her. Long on name recognition, but not an original thought in her head — it’s all makeup and mirrors!
Face it, Janet is a pawn. She JUST became a Republican! She has NO experience at anything other than reading the news from a tele-prompter. The RNC is hoping her ‘celebrity’ (she’s really known more for suing her boss than for reading the news) will get her elected. Do they really think that little of the voters in the 2nd? Worse yet, do we deserve their contempt? November will tell.
