Quarterly Fundraising Crescendo.
Candidates are scrambling to bolster their campaign coffers before the June 30th campaign finance reporting deadline. Fundraising matters and this will be the last quarterly report before the August 10th primaries. The fundraising reports for the quarter will provide provide a look at the prospects of candidates who are seeking public financing. If they aren’t close now, they may not ever reach the $75,000 threshold, for example, that continues to bedevil under-ticket candidates embroiled in a primary fight.
If those statewide candidates in the public financing scheme start collecting on the big “grants,” there may not be enough money in the trough for legislative and other candidates in the general election.
The 2nd quarter reports will also provide a clearer picture of the fundraising skills of candidates who’ve chosen to stay out of the taxpayer-financed program. They may provide proof that the law excludes so many people from participating in campaigns that only self-funders can stay beyond the long reach of onerous government interference in campaigns.

Those who support Boughton and Foley are afraid to give to Mark because their money will get redirected to Fedele
“Hesitating” that doesn’t make any sense at all. Candidate committees cannot co-mingle their funds or contribute to one another so it’s impossible for “their money (to) get redirected to Fedele.”
Ed, they can do joint expenditures.
Grackle, they cannot before the primary. After the primary-yes, before the primary, no. These are separate offices on the primary ballot. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear enough earlier.
Actually, so long as the communication is paid proportionally between the two committees, they can both appear on the same piece of literature or in the same advertisement.
Whether it’s useful for Boughton to do so is another matter.
No grackle, not before the primary as I said before. Go look at 9-616 and you’ll see what I mean. The key words are:
“after a political party nominates candidates for election to the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor,”
“NOMINATES” means AFTER the primary grackle.
