Republicans File Elections Complaint Over Glassman Commercial
Republican State Central Committee Chairman Christopher Healy has filed a complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission, complaining that Democratic lieutenant governor hopeful Mary Glassman violated campaign finance rules. The complaint states:
The following is a complaint against Mary Glassman, candidate for Lt. Governor and her campaign committee, “Mary for Connecticut,” for failing on numerous occasions to properly provide a disclaimer on advertisements made which benefited her candidacy as well as a reasonable subsidy to pay for their production and broadcast.
Allegation #1. An ad that was produced by the Lamont for Governor campaign titled “Special Interests” visually features candidate Glassman at least three times. This ad was broadcast from June 30 to July 6th.
Allegation#2. An ad produced by Lamont for Governor campaign titled “Independent” also visually featured Glassman. This ad was broadcast from June 25th to June 28th.
In the July expenditure report for “Mary for Connecticut,” there are no indications of any reimbursement costs to the Lamont campaign incurred for production and broadcast payments.

Mary’s attractive. Why not feature her? I would think Healy would figure that out. There is no campaign finance issue here.
Bill Mainor is right, there is no violation of campaign finance law here. How many times have candidates used a picture of themselves with other candidates or mentioned another candidate on a radio ad or had a candidate appearing with them on a television ad (like Fedele just did with Mayor Mark)? The answer is many.
Healy should have looked at complaint 2008-150 or the SEEC’s Opinion of Counsel 2008-19 (that had to do with a situation in Wethersfield, Healy’s town of residence) before he wasted everyone’s time.
If we are looking for boogie men we need go no farther than the pack of lawyers the Republicans seem to be underwriting in hopes of sinking every oponent out there.
Every time we turn around, some un-annointed is being dragged into court for what the naysayers think is some transgression. There’s barely an perceived opponent of Chris Healy that hasn’t been dragged through the courts.
Whatever happened to politicians secure enough to run on their records, on issues, and on their opponents foibles?
